If the deceased has not expressed their wishes with a written last will and testament, then the chain of command in decision making is as follows:

• The spouse of the deceased
• An adult child of the deceased
• A parent of the deceased
• An adult brother or sister of the deceased
• A grandparent of the deceased
• A guardian of the deceased at the time of death
• An adult person that had some relationship with the deceased not based on blood ties or affinity

The coroner will release the remains to their contracted funeral home of choice or the family can designate a funeral home prior to the deceased being released.

If you are donating your loved one's body to science, and the company approves the donation, then you will get the cremation for free.
