What is the first step when someone passes away?
The first step is to determine which funeral home you are using. So when your loved one passes away, whatever time of day or night, the hospice or hospital staff already have the contact information for the funeral home to begin the process. Therefore, you are not inundated with stressful questions while you are grieving the loss of your loved one.
If you choose Serenity Funeral Home, we will handle all the details so that you can take the time you need.

Do I get to choose what funeral home I want to work with?
Yes, even if your loved one is at another funeral home, you can transfer or release them to a different funeral home.

What defines the legal next of kin?
If the deceased has not expressed their wishes with a written last will and testament, then the chain of command in decision making is as follows:
- The spouse of the deceased
- An adult child of the deceased
- A parent of the deceased
- An adult brother or sister of the deceased
- A grandparent of the deceased
- A guardian of the deceased at the time of death
- An adult person that had some relationship with the deceased not based on blood ties or affinity

If your loved one needs to go to the coroner, what are the next steps?
The coroner will release the remains to their contracted funeral home of choice or the family can designate a funeral home prior to the deceased being released.

Does your funeral home offer body donation services or cremations at a discounted rate?
If you are donating your loved one's body to science, and the company approves the donation, then you will get the cremation for free.

If your loved one is a victim of crime, what are the next steps?
Serenity Funeral Home will assist you throughout the process. We will contact the state agency and help you to fill out all paperwork to get your loved one back.

Do you offer infant cremation?
Yes, we do. Typically the cremation is not charged but there may be other fees.

What types of payments do you accept?
At SFH, we accept credit, cash, insurance and offer financing options as well.

How long until I get the cremains back?
Typically this will take 2-3 business weeks.

How do I start the death certificate process?
We will start the process and consult with the next of kin. Then we will submit the information for you. You can count on our staff to be with you every step of the way.
