Bruce Edward Johnson began his blessed life on, October 4, 1950 in Chicago IL to his
loving parents Charles and Ruth Johnson Bruce has blessed many people in his life.Bruce was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, Bruce was very lively and outgo-
ing. Bruce was browght up in the Catholic faith. Bruce attended Farragut High and
graduated from South Shore High School, also attending 2 years of college at Olive
Harvey College. Bruce joined the United States Army in 1967 and was deployed to
Vietnam were he later received an honorable discharge with numerous metals for his
bravery. After returning home, Bruce was elected precinct captain of the 8th ward.
Bruce also had several jobs with the city of Chicago working for the Roselawn water
plant and streets of sanitation, In 1974 Bruce married Vanessa Henderson and to this
union two sons were born, Lamont and Jason. Bruce was always a proud and loving
father, there was nothing he wouldn't do for his family. Bruce always made sure his
sons were showered with love and was taught to be respectful, never letting them
want for anything (within reason). Bruce was a great cook, a spotless housekeeper,
and a fastidious dresser as well, Bruce was humorous especially in a clever or witty
way. Bruce was a hard worker and truly loved spending time with his family. Bruce
later started working for the Chicago Transit Authority CTA for 15 years. After taking
Lamont and Jason on a trip to Las Vegas, he grew a liking to the town and decided to
make Vegas his home for 29 years until his passing. Bruce also joined the Mason orig-
ination W. E. Johnson #32 and was still an active honorary Mason member until his
passing. Bruce was called "BJ" by all who knew him in Las Vegas. Bruce was an active
coin collector where he attended countless coin shows and he was also a member of
the Las Vegas numismatic society coin club. Bruce also enjoyed playing the penny
siots from time to time, Bruce truly enjoyed life and he lived it to the fullest and even
though he was ill he didn't let it stop him. Life is going to test you never fold, stay ten
tes down it's not on you it's in you! And what's in you they can't take away! Bruce
truly fought a good fight to the end. Bruce will truly be missed by all that had the
honor to share what ever part of his life on this earth for seventy-two and a half years.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ruth Johnson, granddaugh-
ter Lamia Johnson, sisters Delores Turner and Geraldine Downtown, brothers Michael
Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Larry Johnson and Kenneth Johnson.
Bruce leaves to cherish his two loving sons, Lamont Johnson "LJ" (Las Vegas), Jason
Johnson (Chicago), sister, Emma Jean Williams (Chicago), brothers, David Johnson
(Atlanta), Mark Johnson (Las Vegas), granddaughter Lamoni Johnson (Las Vegas)
Jadyia Haywood Johnson (Chicago), Kariyonna Johnson (Las Vegas), and a special
granddaughter Tariyonna Harper (Las Vegas), Grandsons Lamonte Johnson (Las Ve-
ga5), Lamius Johnson (Las Vegas), Ex wife Vanessa Washington (Chicago) Shenita
Johnson (Las Vegas) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bruce had a special loving niece Sheila Smith whom he loved unconditionally and she
from loved him Chicago. too. one Bruce bonus also had sister, two Marla bonus Sanders
brothers, and Jim John Rhodes Dotson his and mentor Harold who Nathan he
truly admired They were coin collector buddies All of whom were always there for
each other through thick and thin whether it was by phone or to take a trip to visit one other.
